Away from their loved ones, far from sight
They protect our cause and keep us safe
Here in our country away from the strife
Father at war, in the hot desert sun
Missing the embrace of daughter or son
This day is his day his father’s day
But miss it he will, as he, is far away
Father at war, in dugout trenches
Watching his children grow up in pictures
and parcels from home with love wrapped trinkets
Keeps the fire in his heart and his mind filled with images
Father at war, protecting the children
Of a country that spurns him and wants him away
But fight this good fight he does every day
Thinking of his family so far away.
Father at war, is all he can do
to send his love, to family true
Hoping this fight will end too soon
and again feel the embrace of daughter or son
Father at war, looks toward the day
To be back with his loved ones, come what may
Loving his family that missed him the while
He was fighting a war, in some space and time.
