Worship

We often go to a church service expecting to receive. We always do. Had a though week on the job, maybe problems in a relationship, a spat with the spouse, an argument with a friend. So we expect to receive something. It is our right, isn’t it?

So we’re sitting there and all these things are cursing through our mind, we wonder where Joe or Jane is this morning? They should be here, since you made the effort to come. Last you spoke they said they’d be here. Most probably still in bed!

Meanwhile the band is playing, and you wonder, is that drummer not playing too loud or the singer hit the notes all wrong? And so it goes on, before you know it the worship session is over and you feel no better. You think, gee, I really did not enjoy the service today, the worship sucked and well I wonder why I came at all!

So why did we go? To be seen by someone or to see if someone was there, what is our motive? Is it to get something out of it or to give something back?

The thing about worship is that it is not about us, not about the drummer, not about Joe or Jane, not about who is there to see us or them us. It is about giving something back from ourselves. It is to center our thoughts as to why we came there in the first place. And that is to honor Jesus, to give Him the glory and praise. We are there to worship HIM. Does He not deserve our praise? Did He not do it ALL for us? Did He not die for us so that our transgressions will be forgiven? Yes, yes and yes!

So maybe as a pointer to our next visit to church, we keep our minds centered on Him who is worthy of our praise. JESUS. We might then, come away feeling better for the effort we made, and the experience of giving of ourselves back to Him. Renewing the bond that binds us to Him. Our salvation.

Later...
